A nice detour before Bathurst is a visit to Portland, Wallerawang & Cullen Bullen and then onwards and a gentle climb through Yetholme (the highest point on the Great Western Highway) to Bathurst and out on the Mitchell Highway to Orange. Head onwards along the Escort Way/Forbes road to Forbes and up the Newell Highway to Parkes and Dubbo.
